XAlgae & XFertilizer

XAlgae™ & XFertilizer™

hr

In addition to the primary XFuels products (XPetroleum™ and power), the XRefinery™ is also able to produce a range of clean complementary byproducts, which ensures no waste material results from the energy production process and also creates additional value streams.

The selection of products produced, and the distribution and sales channels for each of them, are tailored for each plant scenario, according to the purpose of the plant, the location, available markets, pricing, seasonality, etc.

XAlgae™

XFuels grows a number of premium types of algae (e.g., Chlorella), under the XAlgae™ brand. XAlgae™, through photosynthesis, multiplies rapidly, requiring only carbon dioxide, water, sunlight, and a small amount of minerals to reproduce - all of which are readily available in the XRefinery™ platform.

Commercial and industrial algae cultivation has numerous product uses, including as a stock item for production of food ingredients, food, fertilizer, bioplastics, dyes and colorants, chemical feedstock, pharmaceuticals, and algal fuel, among other uses.

When produced in the XRefinery™, XAlgae™ has two primary distinct market destinations, the choice of which, depends largely on the feedstock processed at the XRefinery™ plant.

XAlgae™ - Food Grade

When cultivated in conjunction with biomass as a feedstock, the XAlgae™ produced is a premium food-grade quality product. Because the XRefinery™ produces algae in a pristine, controlled glass tube environment - verses the production methods used to cultivate algae by other companies in the cleantech sector, (many of which involve large artificial ponds and issues with pond scum, etc.), XAlgae™ is at the top of its class.

Algae is an attractive food source because it is high in protein and other essential nutrients; when dried, it is about 45% protein, 20% fat, 20% fat, 20% carbohydrate, 5% fiber, and 10% minerals and vitamins. Given that market prices for high-quality food-grade algae are on average 1,000 TIMES the value of algae produced as a "feedstock", virtually all XAlgae™ produced in a biomass-fed XRefinery™ is taken to market as a premium food-grade nutritional offering.

XAlgae™ - Feedstock

When cultivated in conjunction with Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) or other non-biogenic feedstock such as plastics or tires, the XAlgae™ produced is an excellent source of sustainable energy, and is simply routed back through the XRefinery™ as a high-quality feedstock.

XFertilizer™

XFuels' biofertilizer, XFertilizer™, is produced from the mineral byproduct of forestry and agricultural feedstock. Because forestry and agricultural feedstock is bio in nature, it creates a high quality biofertilizer additive, able to be sold at the wholesale or industrial level.

XFertilizer™ is comprised of ready-to-use minerals and live formulates of beneficial microorganisms which, on application to seed, root or soil, mobilize the availability of nutrients by theri biological activity. XFertilizer™ helps build up the micro-flora and, in turn, the soil health in general. Use of such natural products in crop cultivation help in safeguarding the soil health and also improve the quality of crop products.

The agricultural benefits from using biofertilizers are many:

  • Stimulates plant growth
  • Activates the soil, biologically
  • Restores natural soil fertility
  • Provides protection against drought
  • Provides protection against some soil borne diseases
  • The potential to replace chemical nitrogen and phosphorus by 25%
  • The potential to increase crop yields by 20 - 30%

The financial and social advantages are clear:

  • Biofertilizers are a cost-effective supplement to fertilizers, which reduce the cost and volume of petroleum-based fertilizers needed, especially nitrogen and phosphorus.

XBricks™

When mineral byproduct is produced (in the XRefinery™) in conjunction with Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) or other non-biogenic feedstock such as plastics or tires, XFuels "bricks" the minerals, rather then offering them as a fertilizer to the agricultural sector.

The XFuels XRefinery™ uses integrated technology employing a well-established and proven cement solidification and stabilization process, further optimized by the use of proprietary chemical additives which ensure any possible contaminants are immobilized, and the residual mineral byproduct material is rendered inert and non-toxic, while at the same time neutralizing all heavy metals.

Waste stream feedstocks which the XFuels XRefinery™ is able to cleanly process using this technology include:

  • Municipal Solid Wastes
  • Industrial / Commercial Hazardous and Toxic Waste
  • Metal Bearing Waste
  • Water Sludge
  • Chemical Waste
  • Paints and Solvents
  • Oil-Based Sludge
  • Hospital Waste
  • Spent Acids
  • And Other Types of Hazardous and Toxic Waste Sludge
