XFuels grows a number of premium types of algae (e.g., Chlorella), under the XAlgae™ brand. XAlgae™, through photosynthesis, multiplies rapidly, requiring only carbon dioxide, water, sunlight, and a small amount of minerals to reproduce - all of which are readily available in the XRefinery™ platform.
Commercial and industrial algae cultivation has numerous product uses, including as a stock item for production of food ingredients, food, fertilizer, bioplastics, dyes and colorants, chemical feedstock, pharmaceuticals, and algal fuel, among other uses.
When produced in the XRefinery™, XAlgae™ has two primary distinct market destinations, the choice of which, depends largely on the feedstock processed at the XRefinery™ plant.
XAlgae™ - Food Grade
When cultivated in conjunction with biomass as a feedstock, the XAlgae™ produced is a premium food-grade quality product. Because the XRefinery™ produces algae in a pristine, controlled glass tube environment - verses the production methods used to cultivate algae by other companies in the cleantech sector, (many of which involve large artificial ponds and issues with pond scum, etc.), XAlgae™ is at the top of its class.
Algae is an attractive food source because it is high in protein and other essential nutrients; when dried, it is about 45% protein, 20% fat, 20% fat, 20% carbohydrate, 5% fiber, and 10% minerals and vitamins. Given that market prices for high-quality food-grade algae are on average 1,000 TIMES the value of algae produced as a "feedstock", virtually all XAlgae™ produced in a biomass-fed XRefinery™ is taken to market as a premium food-grade nutritional offering.
